The 2017 National Lawyers Convention, organized by The Federalist Society, took place from November 16 to 18 at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. This annual event convened legal professionals, scholars, and policymakers to discuss pressing legal and public policy issues.
The convention's theme, "Administrative Agencies and the Regulatory State," was explored through various showcase sessions and practice group breakouts. Key topics included the roles of administrative agencies in the federal judiciary, Congress, and the executive branch, as well as discussions on federalism, antitrust, and the regulatory state of the internet.
Notable speakers featured at the event included Supreme Court Justice Neil M. Gorsuch, who addressed attendees at the Annual Dinner, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who delivered a keynote speech. The Seventeenth Annual Barbara K. Olson Memorial Lecture was presented by White House Counsel Donald McGahn.
The convention offered numerous networking opportunities, including receptions and the Annual Dinner, providing attendees with the chance to engage with peers and leaders in the legal field. The event also featured the Tenth Annual Rosenkranz Debate, focusing on the enduring relevance of the Supreme Court case Lochner v. New York.
