Chicago-Tsinghua Junior Faculty Forum

by University of Chicago Law School and Tsinghua University School of Law

The Chicago-Tsinghua Junior Faculty Forum is a collaborative initiative between the University of Chicago Law School and Tsinghua University School of Law, designed to foster scholarly exchange among early-career legal academics. The inaugural forum took place on May 31, 2018, at the University of Chicago Center in Beijing, bringing together twelve promising young scholars from across China to present their research-in-progress to a distinguished assembly of legal experts.

The forum's agenda encompassed a diverse array of topics at the intersection of law and social science. Key sessions included discussions on governance and institutional dynamics in China, corporate and financial law, cutting-edge issues in law and economics, and judicial behavior. Each session was structured to encourage in-depth dialogue, with authors presenting their main arguments followed by extensive group discussions and Q&A sessions.

This event provided ample opportunities for networking and professional development. Participants engaged in open conversations, embracing the Chicago "round table" workshop style, which emphasized the free flow of ideas and broad participation. Notable speakers included Professor Weixing Shen, Dean of Tsinghua University School of Law, and Professor Omri Ben-Shahar, Kearney Faculty Director of the Coase-Sandor Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Chicago.

The forum was particularly beneficial for junior faculty members and researchers in the fields of law and social science. Attendees had the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their work, engage with peers and senior scholars, and contribute to the advancement of innovative legal research methodologies.
