1st LAWASIA Human Rights Conference

by LAWASIA

The 1st LAWASIA Human Rights Conference, organized by LAWASIA, was held on 9 and 10 February 2019 in New Delhi, India. This inaugural event brought together legal professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss pressing human rights issues and share insights on the protection and promotion of human rights within their respective jurisdictions.

Key topics addressed during the conference included the impact of new technologies on privacy rights, the independence and challenges faced by human rights lawyers, and issues surrounding cross-border migration. Notably, sessions such as "New Technologies, Privacy and Mass Surveillance: Will Human Rights Survive?" and "Human Rights Lawyers: Independence and Threats" provided platforms for in-depth discussions on these critical subjects.

The conference also featured practical sessions where participants exchanged expertise on various human rights concerns, fostering a collaborative environment for addressing regional challenges. This gathering served as a valuable opportunity for legal professionals to network, share experiences, and strengthen their collective efforts in advocating for human rights.

Legal practitioners, human rights advocates, and scholars were encouraged to attend to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary human rights issues and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue aimed at enhancing the protection of human rights across the region.
