The Fifth Annual Post-Grant Roundtable is an event organized by the George Washington University Law School's Intellectual Property Law Program. This roundtable brings together patent leaders from academia, industry, and government to discuss the post-grant practice at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and how post-grant proceedings continue to influence patent law. The event aims to provide a platform for in-depth discussions on the evolving landscape of post-grant proceedings and their impact on patent law practice.
The roundtable covers a range of topics pertinent to post-grant proceedings, including developments in the use of director discretion at the PTAB, the interplay between district court proceedings and the PTAB, strategies for advancing and defending inter partes reviews (IPRs), in-house counsel experiences and perspectives, policy considerations, and potential legislative changes affecting post-grant activities. These discussions are designed to offer insights into the current state and future direction of post-grant proceedings.
The event features a moderated roundtable discussion with a panel of distinguished speakers, including Honorable Jacqueline Bonilla, Deputy Chief Administrative Patent Judge at the USPTO; Honorable Kathleen M. O'Malley, U.S. Court of Appeals; Honorable Magistrate Judge Christopher J. Burke, District of Delaware; Andrei Iancu, Partner at Irell & Manella and former Director of the USPTO; Joshua Salzman, U.S. Department of Justice; Molly Silfen, U.S. Senate; Matt Anderson, Medtronic; Erika Arner, Finnegan; Tim Fink, O'Melveny & Myers; Rayiner Hashem, MoloLamken; Emily Johnson, Amgen; David Jones, HTIA; Kevin Laurence, Laurence & Phillips; Naveen Modi, Paul Hastings; Lissi Mojica, Answers IP; and Jonathan Stroud, Unified Patents.
