USC Gould School of Laws 2019 Intellectual Property Institute
The USC Gould School of Law's 2019 Intellectual Property Institute, held on March 18-19, 2019, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica, California, was a premier event for intellectual property professionals. Organized by the USC Gould School of Law, the Institute brought together over 600 attendees, including federal judges, prominent government officials, leading academics, in-house counsel, and top practitioners, to discuss emerging trends and best practices in copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, and related fields.
The program featured a range of sessions covering critical topics such as global patent litigation and forum selection. Notably, Ellen Robbins moderated a panel titled "Global Patent Litigation: Forum Selection," which examined the increasing trend of initiating patent cases outside the United States. The Institute also included morning plenary sessions, a keynote luncheon address, and afternoon breakout sessions, providing attendees with comprehensive insights into the latest developments in intellectual property law.
In addition to the educational sessions, the event offered multiple networking opportunities, including a special networking breakfast for women in IP and a hosted cocktail reception at the end of the day. These gatherings allowed participants to connect with peers, share experiences, and build professional relationships within the intellectual property community.
The Intellectual Property Institute was designed for a diverse audience, including lawyers, executives, academics, and accountants. Attendees benefited from gaining up-to-date knowledge on recent developments in intellectual property law, practical applications of the latest legislation and case law, and insights from industry experts with extensive experience and knowledge.
