The Privacy Law Scholars Conference (PLSC) is an annual event co-organized by the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology at UC Berkeley School of Law and The George Washington University Law School. It brings together privacy law scholars and practitioners from around the world to discuss current issues and foster connections between academia and practice.
The 2020 conference featured a diverse range of topics, including the impact of artificial intelligence on privacy, algorithmic decision-making, data governance, and the legal implications of emerging technologies. Sessions such as "Safe Harbors for Algorithms?" and "Understanding Chilling Effects and their Harms" highlighted critical discussions on these subjects.
PLSC is designed to facilitate in-depth workshops where papers are introduced by discussion leaders, followed by group discussions. This format encourages constructive feedback and collaborative exploration of privacy law issues. The conference also offers networking opportunities through social breaks and mentoring sessions, fostering a supportive community for privacy scholars and practitioners.
The conference is particularly beneficial for privacy law scholars, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to engage with cutting-edge research and contribute to the evolving discourse on privacy law. Its collaborative environment provides a unique platform for participants to refine their work and stay informed about the latest developments in the field.
