ChemCareers 2021: Patents for Chemists - Protecting Your Invention is a webinar organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in collaboration with Abel + Imray. This event aims to provide chemists with essential insights into patent protection for their inventions.

The webinar will cover key topics such as the fundamentals of patents, their relevance to chemists, and the process of patenting an invention. It will also delve into considerations like identifying inventors, determining patent ownership, and practical aspects of exploiting and licensing patented inventions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from expert speakers, including Dr. Tom Turner, a European and Chartered UK Patent Attorney and Partner at Abel + Imray, and Dr. Katy Pellow, a trainee Patent Attorney at Abel + Imray. The session will be chaired by Laura Woodward, Career and Professional Development Adviser at the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Dr. Katy Pellow

Trainee Patent Attorney at Abel + Imray

Dr. Katy Pellow joined Abel + Imray in 2018 as a trainee Patent Attorney. She earned an MChem from Cardiff University and completed her PhD at the University of Bristol, developing transition metal catalysts for upgrading bioethanol to biobutanol, providing a sustainable route to advanced biofuel production.

Dr. Tom Turner

Partner at Abel + Imray

Dr. Tom Turner is a European and Chartered UK Patent Attorney and a Partner at Abel + Imray. He holds an M.Chem. from the University of Durham and a PhD from the University of Bristol, where his research focused on developing new phosphine ligands for homogeneous palladium catalysts in industrial chemistry.

Laura Woodward
