Westchester Women's Bar Association General Membership Meeting: The Court System and Violence by Children and Adolescents

The Westchester Women's Bar Association (WWBA) hosted a General Membership Meeting titled "The Court System and Violence by Children and Adolescents" on September 22, 2021. This virtual event was organized by the WWBA's Criminal Law Committee and Programs Committee, aiming to shed light on the intersection of the legal system and youth violence.

The program featured a panel of esteemed professionals who provided insights into various facets of juvenile violence within the court system. Topics included psychological assessments of young offenders, legal representation challenges, family law implications, and judicial perspectives on handling such cases. The panelists were:

- Kathleen E. McKay, Ph.D., Coordinator/Training Director of the Court Assessment Program at Westchester Jewish Community Services
- Yvonne Borkowski, Esq., Youth Part Region Chief at the Westchester Legal Aid Society's Criminal Division
- Robin D. Carton, Esq., a Family Law and Matrimonial Attorney
- Amy S. Puerto, Esq., Principal Court Attorney to the Honorable Helen M. Blackwood, who also served as the moderator

Attendees had the opportunity to earn 2 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit hours in professional practice, pending approval by the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY). The event was accessible to WWBA members and their invited guests, with a registration fee of $15 for members and $20 for non-members. The meeting was conducted via Zoom, ensuring broad participation and engagement.
