by Centre for Legal Education at Nottingham Law School

The Centre for Legal Education Conference 2022, held from 13 to 17 June 2022, was the fifth international conference organized by the Centre for Legal Education at Nottingham Law School. The event aimed to explore the themes of community, creativity, and culture in legal education, bringing together a diverse group of participants from various legal education contexts, including professional regulators, legal sector employers, researchers, and students from both within and outside England and Wales.

The conference featured a range of sub-themes, such as student experience, legal clinics, multidisciplinary legal education, professional communities and identity, and the relationships between providers, students, and regulators. These topics were addressed through online sessions held from Monday to Thursday, with an in-person experience on Friday. The event encouraged diversity and innovation in its delivery, welcoming participants from various backgrounds and disciplines.

Notable presentations included a keynote by Foluke Adebisi on the future of law and legal education in an unequal and imperiled world, emphasizing the transformative potential of legal education to address social injustice. Liz Curran also presented on emerging good practices in legal education for the community and multidisciplinary practice. The conference provided opportunities for networking and collaboration among attendees, fostering a collegial environment for sharing best practices and addressing challenges in legal education.

This conference was particularly beneficial for educators, researchers, and practitioners interested in the evolving landscape of legal education. It offered insights into innovative teaching methods, the integration of community-focused initiatives, and the importance of cultural considerations in legal training, making it a valuable event for those committed to enhancing legal education and practice.
