4th ThermaSMART Workshop

The 4th ThermaSMART Workshop, held on August 10-11, 2023, in Cape Town, South Africa, was organized by the ThermaSMART consortium in collaboration with the University of Pretoria. This event brought together international experts to discuss advancements in phase-change cooling technologies for high-power microprocessors and electronic devices.
The workshop featured keynote addresses by Mr. John Ferreira from Spookmakers and Prof. Tunde Bello-Ochende from the University of Cape Town. Sessions covered topics such as thermal hysteresis in the Leidenfrost effect, fluid motion without energy supply, and advanced cooling systems using two-phase flow in complex geometries. Presentations also delved into the dynamics of levitating droplets on superheated gallium and heat transfer characteristics in high-temperature thermal energy storage.
Attendees had opportunities for networking during scheduled lunches and dinners, fostering collaboration among researchers and industry professionals. The event concluded with a business meeting to discuss the next steps for the ThermaSMART network and future initiatives.
This workshop was particularly beneficial for researchers, engineers, and industry professionals involved in thermal management and electronic cooling systems, offering insights into cutting-edge research and practical applications in the field.
