6th Annual Connecticut Bankruptcy Conference

The 6th Annual Connecticut Bankruptcy Conference, organized by the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, took place on September 14, 2023, at Saint Clements Castle and Marina in Portland, Connecticut. This event brought together legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, and trustees, to discuss current trends and developments in bankruptcy law.

The conference featured a comprehensive agenda covering a range of pertinent topics. Sessions included discussions on the state of the court, perspectives from bankruptcy judges in the Northeast, discharge of student loans, litigation funding, elder fraud, bad faith in consumer cases, cannabis and insolvency, stealth objections to exemptions under sections 522(o) and (p), and ethics in bankruptcy cases. Notable speakers included Chief Judge Ann M. Nevins of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut and Tara Twomey from the U.S. Department of Justice's Executive Office for U.S. Trustees.

Attendees had opportunities to engage in networking sessions, including a luncheon plenary and breaks between sessions, fostering professional connections and discussions. The event also provided Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits, offering 6.75 CLE credits in Connecticut (5.75 General; 1.0 Ethics) and 6.5 CLE credits in New York (5.5 Areas of Professional Practice; 1.0 Ethics).

This conference was particularly beneficial for commercial law and bankruptcy practitioners, as well as attorneys and law students interested in bankruptcy law, providing them with valuable insights into recent developments and best practices in the field.
