AI in the Law: The Role of AI in Law Practice Now and in the Future

by MCLE (Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education)

The Richard S. Milstein Lecture Series presents "AI in the Law: The Role of AI in Law Practice Now and in the Future," a virtual MCLE event scheduled for Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. This series is made possible through the generosity of MCLE's founding director, Richard S. Milstein, Esq., who values the importance of scholarly dialogue on the present and future life of the law in Massachusetts.

Attorney John Weaver, a director and chair of McLane Middleton's Artificial Intelligence Practice Group, will lead the session. The presentation will cover several key topics, including: What Is Artificial Intelligence? How Are Lawyers Using AI? AI Under the Rules of Professional Conduct, Generative AI in the Practice of Law, The Future of AI and the Law, Practical Concerns and Planning for the Future, Access to Justice, and Does AI Represent an Existential Crisis for Lawyers?

John Weaver brings extensive experience to the discussion. His practice includes conducting risk assessments of AI systems, advising clients on AI policies and best practices, and counseling on emerging legal and practical issues in AI. He serves on the steering committee for the American Bar Association's Artificial Intelligence & Robotics National Institute and is the author of "Robots Are People Too: How Siri, Google Car, and Artificial Intelligence Will Force Us to Change Our Laws." Additionally, he contributes to Slate on legal issues related to AI and autonomous devices and is a columnist and board member of The Journal of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & Law.

This event is designed for legal professionals interested in understanding the current and future implications of AI in law practice. Attendees will gain insights into the ethical considerations, practical applications, and strategic planning necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of AI in the legal field.
