Generative AI for In-House Counsel: Navigating AI Risks in the Business and with Third Parties

by In-House Connect

"Generative AI for In-House Counsel: Navigating AI Risks in the Business and with Third Parties" was a virtual event held on November 9, 2023, organized by In-House Connect. The session featured discussions led by Mark Lemley, William H. Neukom Professor at Stanford Law and the world's most cited scholar in IP law; Noah Waisberg, CEO of Zuva and author of 'AI for Lawyers'; and Daniel Lewis, US CEO of LegalOn Technologies. The event focused on the rapidly evolving legal issues surrounding generative AI, model training, usage, and intellectual property protection.

Key topics covered included the legal challenges associated with training AI models, such as web scraping, copyright protection, and fair use; understanding AI Terms of Use and related contractual commitments, encompassing both training and output liabilities; protecting sensitive data from AI training and its eventual outputs; validating the integrity and quality of AI inputs and outputs to reduce risks tied to AI inaccuracies; and championing human oversight and human-in-the-loop decision-making to ensure AI tools are transparently and appropriately developed and utilized.

The event was free to attend, thanks to the sponsorship of LegalOn Technologies, a global leader in AI contract review. For those unable to attend the live session, a recording was made available via In-House Connect's paid CLE library, In-House Connect On-Demand.

This program was designed for in-house counsel interested in learning best practices and mitigating risks when advising their organization on using Generative AI.
