by Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI)

The Legal Generative AI Summit 2023 was a global virtual event held on October 24 and 25, 2023, organized by the Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI). The summit aimed to create one of the largest online learning communities focused on the application of generative AI in legal practice, bringing together 2,423 participants from 81 countries, including law students, early career professionals, lawyers, allied legal professionals, legal educators, and access to justice specialists.

The summit featured nine sessions with contributions from an international faculty of 33 specialists covering topics such as legal practice, legal operations, legal education, legal innovation, access to justice, professional responsibility and risk, and talent management. Key discussions explored the promises and challenges of generative AI in the legal field, its impact on access to justice, and the evolving responsibilities of legal professionals in the digital age.

Notable sessions included "Can GenAI live up to its promise…and what is it promising now?" by Mary O’Carroll, Chief Community Officer at Ironclad, Inc., and "Law Unlimited: Welcome to the re-envisioned legal profession" by Jordan Furlong, Principal at Law21. The event also provided opportunities for networking and collaboration among attendees, fostering a global community dedicated to understanding and implementing generative AI in legal contexts.

The summit was particularly beneficial for legal practitioners, educators, and students seeking to understand the transformative potential of generative AI in the legal sector. Participants gained insights into current applications, future trends, and the skills necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of legal technology.
