2023 Maryland State Bar Association Legal Summit & Annual Meeting
The 2023 Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Legal Summit & Annual Meeting, held from June 7 to June 9 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland, brought together over 700 legal professionals from across the state. This annual event, organized by the MSBA, serves as a premier gathering for Maryland's legal community, offering a platform for continuing education, professional development, and networking opportunities.
The summit featured a diverse array of continuing legal education sessions across eight tracks: Technology, Litigation & Trial Skills, Ethics, Justice, Corporate Law, Practice Update, Leadership & Practice Management, and Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Notable sessions included discussions on ethical considerations for attorneys responding to negative online reviews, effective representation of clients with disabilities, and the impact of artificial intelligence on employment discrimination law. Keynote speakers such as former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele and U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin provided insights into the current political climate and legal challenges facing the nation.
Beyond the educational offerings, the event facilitated numerous networking and social activities. Attendees participated in receptions, happy hours, and informal gatherings, fostering connections among peers. The summit also hosted the Leadership Academy Fellows Graduation and the Maryland Bar Foundation Annual Meeting & Induction of the 2023 Fellows, celebrating achievements within the legal community.
