The Athens Roundtable on AI and the Rule of Law is an annual international forum dedicated to addressing the intersection of artificial intelligence and legal frameworks. Organized by The Future Society, the 2024 edition took place on December 9 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris, under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou. This event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, legal experts, technologists, and civil society representatives, to discuss and develop strategies for accountable AI governance.
The 2024 Roundtable focused on enhancing international coordination for accountability in AI governance. Key sessions included mapping the landscape of AI governance and accountability, identifying challenges in establishing accountability mechanisms, and building stronger global collaboration among various actors. The event also presented takeaways from a global consultation for France’s AI Action Summit, emphasizing the need for enforceable governance structures to ensure AI systems align with the rule of law.
