CIPIL Evening Seminar: 'Co-producing Automated Public Decision-Making'
by Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL)
The Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law (CIPIL) at the University of Cambridge is hosting an evening seminar titled "Co-producing Automated Public Decision-Making" on Thursday, 9 May 2024, at 5:30 pm. The event will take place in Room G24 of the Faculty of Law and will feature Dr. Oliver Butler from the University of Nottingham as the speaker.
The seminar will explore the delegation of design and implementation decisions to professional developers when public authorities procure and use automated decision-making technologies. Dr. Butler will discuss how this delegation can impact accountability, democratic oversight, and the allocation of public functions, while also considering circumstances where deference to developer expertise may be appropriate. The presentation will reassess the concept of non-delegation in public law to enhance accountable official decision-making in the context of co-produced automated public decision-making technologies.
Following the seminar, attendees are invited to a drinks reception in Room G24, providing an opportunity for networking and further discussion. The event is hybrid, allowing both in-person attendance and online participation via Zoom, with prior registration required for online access.
This seminar is particularly relevant for legal professionals, policymakers, scholars, and students interested in the intersection of technology and public law, offering valuable insights into the challenges and considerations of integrating automated decision-making within public authorities.
