Forum on Increasing Access to Justice and Pro Bono Awards Luncheon

by Legal Services Corporation

The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is hosting a forum and Pro Bono Awards Luncheon to address the increasing incidences of domestic violence and other barriers to justice for low-income Texans. This event marks the commencement of LSC's 50th-anniversary celebrations under the theme "Protecting the Promise."

Key topics include discussions on domestic violence, the importance of legal assistance in abusive relationships, and strategies to make legal aid more accessible to low-income individuals. The event will also feature awards recognizing the pro bono work of local attorneys.

Notable speakers include Harriet Miers, chair of the Texas Access to Justice Commission; Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht; Texas State Bar President Cindy Tisdale; Emilee Dawn Whitehurst of the Houston Area Women's Center; Maisha Colter of Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse; and LSC President Ron Flagg. Advocates from Texas' civil legal aid organizations, including Lone Star Legal Aid, Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, will also participate.
