by The University of Texas School of Law Continuing Legal Education (UT Law CLE)

The 37th Annual Technology Law Conference, organized by The University of Texas School of Law Continuing Legal Education (UT Law CLE), took place on May 23-24, 2024, at Hotel ZaZa Austin Downtown in Austin, Texas. This two-day event brought together a nationally recognized faculty of technology and licensing practitioners, in-house counsel from leading tech companies, and experts in open source, data privacy/security, and emerging technology to discuss the latest issues affecting the industry.

Key topics covered during the conference included privacy concerns and data/legal risks for small to medium businesses and startups, as well as privacy, cyber, and ethical challenges of data governance. Sessions featured interactive presentations, such as a privacy-themed game of "Two Truths and a Lie," aimed at addressing common areas of confusion for businesses approaching privacy law for the first time and providing guidance on leveraging internal and external resources when navigating the privacy landscape.

The conference also offered practical details like networking opportunities and an expo hall, allowing attendees to connect with peers and industry leaders. Notable speakers included data privacy attorney Rachel Marmor, who participated in the session on privacy concerns for small to medium businesses, and Ken Suh, who spoke on the panel discussing privacy, cyber, and ethical challenges of data governance. Additionally, attorneys Bart Huffman and Haylie Treas served on the event's planning committee, with Mr. Huffman also serving as conference co-chair.

This conference was ideal for technology and licensing practitioners, in-house counsel from tech companies, and professionals specializing in open source, data privacy/security, and emerging technology.
