The APIL Abuse Conference 2025, held in association with the Association of Child Abuse Lawyers (ACAL), took place on Friday, 20 June 2025, at the Marriott Marble Arch Hotel in London. This annual event, now in its 17th year, brought together leading professionals in the field of abuse law to share insights, discuss emerging challenges, and foster meaningful networking opportunities.

The conference featured a comprehensive program covering key developments and best practices in abuse litigation. Sessions included a keynote address on the challenges in cases of child sexual abuse and the importance of effective communication, an update on the national policing response to non-recent child sexual abuse, practical strategies for managing complex abuse cases, discussions on psychiatric injury and causation, legal updates on recent case law, mandatory reporting obligations, and trauma-informed lawyering approaches.

Attendees had the option to participate either in person or virtually via the APIL app, ensuring flexibility and accessibility. The event also provided ample opportunities for networking with peers and experts in the field. Notable speakers included Anna Glinski, Deputy Director at the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse; Richard Fewkes, Director of the National Police Chiefs Council Hydrant Programme; and Dr. Alexandra Getz, Consultant Psychiatrist at Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust.
