The 14th Asia Pro Bono Conference & Access to Justice Exchange (14APBC&A2JX) is a dynamic six-day event scheduled from December 2 to December 7, 2026, in Fukuoka, Japan. Organized by a dedicated team of volunteers from across Asia and globally, with the encouragement and support of the BABSEACLE team, this conference serves as a pivotal gathering for legal service providers, practitioners, academics, justice educators, students, community advocates, and pro bono champions from the region and beyond. The event aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing to advance pro bono initiatives and access to justice across Asia and globally.
The conference will feature a series of events under one collaborative umbrella, offering participants a full spectrum of learning, sharing, and networking opportunities. These include the "Fundamentals of Clinical Legal Education: Goals, Models and Shared Practices Workshop" on December 2-3, the "Pro Bono Week Workshop" on December 3, the main conference sessions from December 4-6, and the "Role of Bar Associations/Law Societies in Supporting Pro Bono Workshop" on December 7. The main conference sessions will cover a range of topics, including "Building a Healthier Legal Profession: Wellness, Recovery, and the Global Pro Bono Move," "Building a Thriving Pro Bono Culture: Strategies for Law Firms in Asia," and "Diversified Pro Bono by a Large Law Firm in Asia - the White & Case Journey and Experience." These sessions aim to provide insights and strategies for enhancing pro bono practices and access to justice in the region.
Throughout the week, the Access to Justice Exchange (A2JX) will host various meetings, collaborative discussions, and networking activities that complement the main conference and promote shared learning and cross-border partnerships. The event is designed to be inclusive, offering both in-person and virtual participation options to accommodate a diverse audience. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with peers, share experiences, and collaborate on initiatives that positively impact the lives of disadvantaged individuals and marginalized communities.
The 14APBC&A2JX is open to a wide range of attendees, including lawyers and legal practitioners, law professors, law students, members of the judiciary, government officials, civil society organization members, and others involved in pro bono and access to justice initiatives. Attending this conference provides a unique opportunity to explore pro bono initiatives and developments in Asia and around the world, network and collaborate with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, and learn about innovative partnerships and practices that are being effectively implemented to advance access to justice.
