Judge Micah W. J. Smith
Judge at U.S. District Court for the District of Hawai'i
Judge Micah W. J. Smith has served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawai'i since January 2024. Prior to his appointment, he held senior leadership roles in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Hawai'i, including deputy chief of the Criminal Division and chief of appeals and legal strategy. His career also includes private practice at O'Melveny & Myers in Washington, DC, and clerkships with Justice David H. Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Guido Calabresi on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He earned his JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School and his BA, summa cum laude, from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.
