CE/CLE - FinCEN's Residential Real Estate Rule: An Update on What NY Title Providers Need to Know
The New York State Land Title Association (NYSLTA) is hosting a webinar titled "FinCEN's Residential Real Estate Rule: An Update on What NY Title Providers Need to Know." This event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM Eastern Time. The webinar will be presented by Matthew C. Cahill, Vice President and Corporate Underwriting Counsel at First American Title Insurance Company, and Vincent G. Danzi, Vice President of Operations and Underwriting Counsel at The Security Title Guarantee Corporation of Baltimore.
The webinar will focus on the FinCEN Residential Real Estate Rule, which is set to take effect on March 1, 2026. This rule mandates the reporting of detailed information regarding the transferors and transferees in residential real estate transactions, particularly those involving purchasers who are entities or trusts, and where the transfer is not financed by an institutional lender with an anti-money laundering policy. The session will provide insights into the reporting requirements, the role of title insurance companies and agents, and the implications of the rule under New York law and regulations. Additionally, the seminar will cover key updates that have developed over the past four months, including the Real Estate Report Form.
This professional continuing education program is approved by the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS). Upon completion, licensed title agents and attorneys may receive 1 CE/CLE credit in the "Areas of Professional Practice" category. The NYSLTA is an accredited provider of continuing legal education in New York State, offering CLE classes with a focus on title insurance issues. Scholarships are available for attorneys who cannot afford the CLE tuition; interested individuals should contact the Association at 212-964-3701 for more details. Please note that this course is designed for experienced attorneys and is classified as non-transitional.
The webinar is particularly relevant for licensed title agents and attorneys involved in residential real estate transactions in New York. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the new FinCEN rule, its reporting requirements, and the practical steps necessary for compliance. This knowledge is essential for professionals aiming to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape effectively and to ensure adherence to both federal and state regulations.
