The California Indian Law Association (CILA) proudly hosted the 2026 Pathway to Law Program from February 19 to 21, 2026, at Stanford Law School. This initiative welcomed 23 Indigenous individuals, including elected tribal leaders, seasoned professionals, students, parents, advocates, and community members, all dedicated to serving Indigenous communities through the legal profession.
Over the three-day program, participants engaged in workshops and panels covering the law school application process, LSAT preparation, crafting personal and diversity statements, and navigating financial aid. They attended a Federal Indian Law class, received personalized feedback on personal statements, and learned about opportunities such as the American Indian Law Center’s Pre-Law Summer Institute.
The program also featured a law school admissions panel with representatives from various institutions, a law student panel offering insights into legal education, and discussions with practicing attorneys about careers in Native law and advocacy. A key component was the mentorship program, where each participant was paired with a Native attorney or law student mentor to support them through the law school application process.
This program is ideal for Indigenous individuals aspiring to enter the legal profession, offering comprehensive guidance, mentorship, and a supportive community to navigate the path to law school and beyond.
