How Long Can EU-US Digital Ties Last?
The European Legal Studies Center at Columbia Law School hosted a lunchtime lecture titled "How Long Can EU-US Digital Ties Last?" on April 2, 2026. The event featured Max Schrems, Honorary Chairman of noyb.eu, who discussed the contentious approaches to digital regulation between the European Union and the United States.
Schrems addressed issues such as US surveillance laws, concerns over digital shutdowns, differing views on privacy rights, and freedom of speech. He highlighted the EU's pursuit of "digital sovereignty" and examined how current EU-US digital agreements might be affected by shifts in US law and practices, as well as the EU's strict requirements for fundamental rights.
The lecture took place in William and June Warren Hall, Room 107, at Columbia Law School in New York City. Lunch was provided, and attendees were encouraged to RSVP in advance.
This event was particularly relevant for legal professionals, policymakers, and scholars interested in international digital regulation and privacy rights.
