2026 Entertainment & Media Law Conference

The 2026 Entertainment & Media Law Conference is the 23rd annual event organized by the Media Law Resource Center (MLRC) in partnership with the Biederman Entertainment, Media, and Sports Law Institute. Scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, March 19, 2026, the conference will be held on the campus of Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles.

The conference will feature sessions on advising creators in the artificial intelligence age, including practical guidance on distributor and labor issues, copyrightability of AI outputs, client content used for AI training, and undisclosed uses of AI. Additionally, there will be an intellectual property review addressing recent cases such as Jack Daniel’s Properties v. VIP Products and Cox Communications v. Sony Music Entertainment, focusing on their implications for trademark, right of publicity, and copyright infringement in the media industry. Another session, "Hollywood Under Threat," will examine the pressures facing the entertainment sector during the second Trump administration, including media consolidation and its impact on resisting government demands, as well as the viability of markets for potentially controversial content.

The conference will also include breakout sessions with facilitators leading discussions on topics such as celebrity defamation, video game law, and deals for cheap, fast, and lucrative online content.
