The ILA-ASIL EastMed-MENA Research Forum is a biennial event organized by the Hellenic Branch of the International Law Association and the American Society of International Law (ASIL). It convenes academics, practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to discuss contemporary issues in international and comparative law pertinent to the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. The 2026 edition is supported by the WTO Chair at Hamad Bin Khalifa University and the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre of Excellence for International Courts and Governance at the University of Copenhagen, as well as the ASIL International Law and Technology Interest Group.

The 2026 Forum will focus on how international and comparative law can promote sustainable trade, investment, and economic integration across the Eastern Mediterranean and MENA regions. Key topics include the impact of shifting global supply chains, energy transitions, and emerging trade corridors linking Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Discussions will cover international legal frameworks such as WTO and investment law, regional agreements, infrastructure finance, and digital governance, aiming to support cooperative development and resilient integration across regions.

The event will feature a range of sessions and panels addressing themes like the emergence of new economic corridors, sustainable blue economy regulation, digital transformation in governance, and the role of law in facilitating connectivity initiatives and energy partnerships. Notable speakers and experts in international law and regional cooperation are expected to participate, providing valuable insights and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.

This forum is ideal for legal scholars, economists, policymakers, and professionals interested in the legal aspects of regional cooperation and economic integration. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the Eastern Mediterranean and MENA regions, engage with leading experts, and contribute to shaping the future of international law in these areas.
