The International Coercive Control Conference (ICCC) is a pivotal event dedicated to addressing the pervasive issue of coercive control, a form of abuse that systematically strips individuals, particularly women and children, of their autonomy and freedom. Organized by The Engendered Collective, the conference aims to foster collective education, raise awareness, and advocate for significant societal change to end coercive control. Scheduled for April 10-11, 2026, the conference will be hosted at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, offering both in-person and virtual participation options to accommodate a global audience.
The 2026 conference will feature a diverse array of sessions covering critical topics such as the intersection of faith, law, and technology in identifying coercive control, expanding the coercive control framework to various contexts including courts, cults, trafficking, and queer intimacies, and exploring trauma-informed approaches to recovery and reintegration for survivors. Notable speakers include Reem Alsalem, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls; Adam Joel, filmmaker; David Martin, prosecutor; and Wendy Murphy, former prosecutor and law professor. These experts will share insights and strategies to combat coercive control across different sectors.
Attendees will have opportunities to engage in networking events, participate in workshops, and access an expo hall featuring organizations and resources dedicated to combating coercive control. The conference's comprehensive schedule ensures that both in-person and virtual attendees can benefit from the sessions, with recordings available for registered participants for a limited time. This structure allows for flexible engagement, catering to various learning preferences and time zones.
The ICCC is designed for professionals, advocates, policymakers, and community members committed to ending coercive control. By attending, participants will gain valuable knowledge, practical tools, and connections to enhance their efforts in supporting survivors and implementing systemic change. The conference serves as a platform for sharing research, best practices, and innovative approaches to address this critical issue, contributing to a collective movement toward a society free from violence, exploitation, and oppression.
