SLS Conference 2026

by Society of Legal Scholars

The 117th Annual Conference of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) will be hosted by the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich from 2 to 4 September 2026. Established in 1963, UEA's School of Law has a rich history and is renowned for its contributions to legal education and research. This conference marks a return to UEA since its last hosting in 1994, reflecting the event's growth and evolution over the years.

The conference theme, 'Doing Law Differently,' inspired by UEA's motto 'Do Different,' encourages exploration of innovative approaches in legal research, methodology, pedagogy, and practice. Attendees can expect sessions covering a wide array of topics, including Company Law, Comparative Law, Energy Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property, International Law, Labour Law, Legal Education, Media and Communications Law, Migration and Asylum, Private International Law, Public Law, Remedies and Restitution, Torts, Banking and Financial Services Law, Contract, Commercial and Consumer Law, Criminal Law and Criminal Justice, Cyberlaw, Environmental Law, EU and Competition Law, Health Law, Human Rights, Legal History, Legal Theory, Practice, Profession and Ethics, Property and Trusts, and Tax Law.

The conference will feature plenary sessions, subject section meetings, and opportunities for early career researchers to present their work. Social events include an informal dinner at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts on the UEA campus and the annual dinner at The Assembly House, a Grade I listed Georgian building in Norwich city centre. These events provide ample networking opportunities and a chance to engage with peers in a collegial environment.

Legal scholars, practitioners, and students are encouraged to attend to gain insights into contemporary legal issues, share research findings, and collaborate on future projects. The conference offers a platform for both seasoned academics and emerging scholars to contribute to and benefit from the collective knowledge of the legal community.
