FutureLaw 2020 is an annual conference organized by CodeX – The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics. Traditionally held on the Stanford campus, the event focuses on how technology is transforming the legal profession and redefining the ways individuals interact with legal systems and institutions. Due to the health emergency in 2020, the conference was adapted into an online format to continue providing a platform for the legal tech community to connect and share innovations.
The conference covers a wide range of topics, including the impact of natural language processing breakthroughs on the legal profession, legal innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa, and regulatory reforms aimed at increasing access to justice. Sessions feature discussions on the implications of technologies like BERT for legal analytics, the surge of "no code" platforms for legal tech development, and the role of regulatory sandboxes in fostering innovation within the legal sector.
FutureLaw 2020 offers practical insights through keynote addresses, panel discussions, and LEX (Law, Education, and Experience) Talks. Notable speakers include Justice Deno Himonas of the Utah Supreme Court, who discusses regulatory reforms, and entrepreneurs like Funkola Odeleye, co-founder and CEO of DIYlaw, who shares perspectives on legal tech advancements in Africa. The online format also provides opportunities for virtual networking and engagement with thought leaders in the field.
The conference is designed for legal professionals, technologists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and academics interested in the intersection of law and technology. Attendees gain valuable insights into emerging trends, innovative tools, and regulatory developments shaping the future of the legal industry.
